The School District of Lancaster is a large, urban school district of 11,300 students educated in 19 schools in central Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.〔(Lancaster: Education and Research )〕 Established in 1836, it is the second oldest school district in the state.〔 School District of Lancaster encompasses approximately . According to 2000 federal census data, it serves a resident population of 70,348. The School District of Lancaster received more than $63.9 million in state funding in school year 2007-08. The budget was $162 million for the 2009-2010 school year. The district is a member of Lancaster-Lebanon Intermediate Unit (IU) 13. The District operates nineteen schools in 2014: one early childhood center, thirteen elementary schools, four middle schools, one high school campus and two alternative schools. The Business Manager is responsible for budget and financial operations. Neither of these officials are voting members of the School Board. The School Board enters into individual employment contracts for these positions.
